Description：Neutrophils, also known as polymorphonuclear (PMN) leukocytes, are the most abundant type in the whole blood. They are the first line of defense in the immune system against pathogens. There are three ways for neutrophils to perform antibacterial function: phagocytosis, degranulation, or the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Increasing evidences suggest that neutrophils also involve in cytokine production, resolution of inflammation, cancer progression and adaptive immune responses. A high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is often associated with poor prognostic in many malignancies.
